Technical, Safety and Operations Excellence
The overarching rule that applies is simple: “will I let my own child fly on that plane on that day with those pilots?” if yes, we do the right job, if no or maybe, we will make it a yes before we can operate.
The daily job is to listen from experience, prevent and plan far ahead. A high standard in operations is not about reinventing the wheel, but to learn deeply from experiences and to make it more reliable and ultimately more profitable.

1. Facts and Figures on the Plane and Engine
Plane type: Cessna C208EX Grand Caravan
- C208 was initially designed in 1982, and improved in 2008 with an extended version “EX”, with modern avionics.
- The design is to be a utility flying machine, as a ”flying Jeep” easy to maintain and capable to land in any area.
- From FAA Safety record 2023: 3000 were manufactured with total 24 Millions Flight hours logged in total, encountered total 231 recorded incidences and 166 fatalities;
Engine type: Pratt&Whitney PT6
- The initial design of the engine is dated 60 years ago as the first turboprop engine, made from the concept based on Canadian agricultural turbine machines used to run life-long without any stops.
- The power range of PT6 can vary from 450hp to 2200hp, pending the options. Seaplane Asia operates the version at 875hp, in the comfortable middle zone of the engine design capability.
- The PT6 is known for its reliability with an in-flight shutdown rate of one per 333,333 hours from 1963 to 2016. It has reached over 1 billion total flight hours in 2021.
Looking to the close future: the right choice for Seaplane Asia
- The 1st commercial electric engine is made by the seaplane operator "Harbour Air, Canada”, friends of Seaplane Asia: World's first commercial electric plane takes off near Vancouver
- The 1st unmanned flying plane worldwide is also a C208B, chosen for its reliable skills, started in 2023 by “Reliable Robotics USA”: Reliable Robotics remotely operates a large cargo aircraft with no one on board
2. Certifications and Regulatory Compliance
- Operating criteria are based on European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) standards, recognized as one of the world’s most stringent regulatory frameworks.
- Aircraft are maintained under Part 145 Maintenance Approvals, ensuring top-tier preventive maintenance.
- All operations are subject to the same rules as significantly larger commercial airlines; while our airplane size may be smaller, the regulation framework remains the same to apply.
3. Aircraft & Maintenance Standards
- The fleet includes newer, modern aircraft like the Cessna Grand Caravan 208 EX, with the latest avionics glass cockpit, offering enhanced reliability and safety.
- Preventive maintenance is carried out based on real-time data tracking and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) recommendations, minimizing operational risks.
- Exclusive partnerships with top-tier suppliers ensure access to genuine parts and expertise.
- Tapping into an internationally experienced and senior team, including our Group Chief Technical Officer with 20+ years in Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul for globally-leading maintenance service providers, such as AirFrance/KLM, to 150 airlines all across the world.
- Maintenance key concept is to prevent the incidents, not to suffer and react to incidents.
- There are further ways to improve reliability with an Engineering program (“MORE” program for the PT6 engine to increase time before overhaul and others): we will invest in it to increase reliability and profitability.
4. Staff, Pilot and Crew Training
- Pilots are trained to meet EASA standards with additional amphibious operations certifications.
- All flight and ground crew undergo recurrent training every 6 months, including CRM (Crew Resource Management) and emergency response drills.
- Internationally experienced management team oversees operational consistency.
- High level of experienced professionals to apply best practices, over the minimum regulation. Best practices based on concrete experience in order to:
- Ensure continuous safety operations,
- Train pilots and staff more than minimums,
- Optimize technical reliability of plane and engine,
- Leverage customer orientation of all staff,
- Focus on profitability of operations.
5. Forward-Planning and Preventive Measures
- Implements predictive maintenance using advanced software to track performance trends and detect potential issues before they occur.
- Weather monitoring uses state-of-the-art forecasting systems, ensuring safer flight planning.
- Emergency response protocols are tested quarterly with simulated scenarios.
- Staff availability on a roster scheduled program, equivalent to medevac operations for 7/7 duty responsiveness
6. Reputation and Partnerships
- Trusted by leading luxury resorts like Soneva, Aman, InterContinental, Four Seasons, and others for delivering safe, reliable, and high-quality services.
- Close partnerships and knowledge exchange with globally leading amphibious seaplane operators, such as Tropic Ocean Airways (USA/Caribbean) and Harbour Air (Canada)
- Close interactions and collaboration with various regulators, both on decision-making and operational level, including: EASA working managers, Ministries of Transport Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Maldives; Civil Aviation Authorities of Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Philippines.
- A positive safety track record has earned recognition from key industry stakeholders.
- Regular collaboration with global aviation experts to continuously improve safety standards.
